Light, Timber & Atmosphere
Light, Timber & Atmosphere
RS Studio & Design is a Melbourne-based lighting studio founded in 2023 by designer-maker Rael Solomon. The studio creates handcrafted, sustainable sculptural timber lighting that sits between functional object and art piece. Each design explores the interplay of light and aperture, casting scattered pinpoints and layered illumination to bring warmth and atmosphere to living spaces.
For most of my career, I worked in research and analytics. While I enjoyed solving complex problems, I found myself increasingly drawn toward something more tangible: making things by hand.
What began as an exploration of timber, light, and form gradually evolved into RS Studio.
I've always been fascinated by the way light shapes how a space feels. A room can feel calm, inviting, reflective, or energising depending on how it is illuminated. I wanted to create lighting that does more than brighten a room. Lighting that contributes to atmosphere, emotion, and everyday rituals.
Today, every RS Studio lamp is designed, crafted, and assembled in Melbourne using sustainably sourced Australian timbers. Each piece begins as an idea, moves through sketching and prototyping, and is refined until the balance of form, material, and light feels right.
My hope is that these lamps bring a sense of warmth, presence, and quiet enjoyment to the spaces they inhabit.
Thank you for supporting Australian design and craftsmanship.

Every RS Studio lamp begins with an idea, is shaped by hand, and finished with light.
Every design begins with observation. Nature, architecture, interiors, and the emotional qualities of light provide the starting point for each new lamp.
02 Crafted
Designed and made in Melbourne, each lamp is precision-cut from sustainable Australian timber, carefully assembled, hand-finished, and individually inspected.
03 Illuminated
When switched on, each lamp comes alive, casting intricate patterns of light and shadow that transform everyday moments into something memorable.
Through our blog, we explore the emotional side of lighting — how it shapes atmosphere, comfort, and connection.
